How Parlay Math Works

A parlay multiplies the decimal odds of every leg. All legs must win for the parlay to cash. Convert American odds to decimal:

  • Negative American (favorite): decimal = (100 / |American|) + 1. Example: −110 → 1.909.
  • Positive American (underdog): decimal = (American / 100) + 1. Example: +200 → 3.0.

Then multiply: a 3-leg parlay of three −110 legs = 1.909 × 1.909 × 1.909 = 6.96 decimal odds (or +596 American). A $100 bet returns $696 ($596 profit).

Same Game Parlay vs Standard Parlay

Same Game Parlays (SGPs) combine legs from a single event. Sportsbooks adjust the price downward to account for correlation between legs (e.g., a team winning correlates with their QB throwing more TDs). Use this calculator for standard parlays; SGP pricing varies by operator.

Common Mistakes

  • Loading 6+ legs as a “lottery ticket.” The implied probability collapses; long-term EV is deeply negative.
  • Stacking heavy favorites (e.g., four −300 legs). The combined price rarely justifies the bankroll risk.
  • Confusing American and decimal odds — −110 is NOT 1.10x.
  • Forgetting that pushed legs reduce the parlay rather than killing it (at most PA books).
